Marfa IT House, Linda Taalman, 2017
We traveled to Marfa, Texas to visit Robert and Hillary Summers and their IT House, designed by architect Linda Taalman. Years after the home was completed, Robert and Hillary reunited with Linda to revisit the house and reflect on the ideas and experiences that shaped their home. Set within the vast landscape of West Texas, Marfa is a place unlike anywhere else. A small, remote desert town known for its creative community, art, architecture, and unique sense of place.
The IT House feels deeply connected to this environment, offering a thoughtful exploration of simplicity, flexibility, and the relationship between architecture and the landscape. Together, we explored the home, the surrounding desert, and what makes Marfa such a special place to live.
Most importantly, we heard from Robert and Hillary about their experience living in a home designed specifically for their way of life, while reconnecting with the architect who brought it to life. A reunion between architect and clients, and a look at the unique relationship between a home, its landscape, and the place it calls home.
